Size of Baby

30mm crown to rump.

Development of Baby

Your baby’s genitalia now begin to form although the gender is indistinguishable at this stage. Lanugo, the downy hair that covers baby’s body, is also forming.

Maternal Symptoms

As you look at yourself in the mirror, you may start to see changes in the shape of your body including your waist, hips, and breasts. You may start to see a small bump appearing although this varies greatly person to person.

Things to Consider

During your initial appointment you will have been asked about your family history. If your family origins have a high risk for sickle cell and thalassemia, you will have been offered your initial screening test by this point. This first test determines whether or not you are a carrier of either of these conditions and therefore whether your baby is at risk of either being a carrier or presenting with the conditions. The reason it is recommended that this test is done before 10 weeks is to give you ample time to discuss and make decisions on the results.
