Size of Baby

50mm crown to rump.

Development of Baby

Your baby now starts to swallow and also starts to pass urine into the amniotic fluid. Amniotic fluid begins as predominantly water and dissolved solid substances including nutrition and waste matter. Throughout pregnancy this gradually changes until it is mainly made up of waste materials.

Maternal Symptoms

Your body now has around 50% more blood volume compared to before you were pregnant. This can make you feel slightly light-headed. If this happens, take some rest, and drink some water.

Things to Consider

As you come to the end of your first trimester it can be a useful time review what you are eating, what you are craving (if anything), and adjusting where necessary to achieve a balanced diet. Your baby is growing rapidly and is using your reserves of nutrients, consider how you are replacing these. Do you need to take a pregnancy multivitamin?
