I have been fortunate enough to breastfeed both of my boys. When I was pregnant with my eldest, I told myself I would give it a good go, and if it worked for me and the baby, then great. If it didn’t, there were other ways in which I could feed him. I didn’t want to pile the pressure onto myself as I felt that could be counterproductive. I had two very different breastfeeding experiences, neither of which, I could have predicted. Having spoken to fellow Mummy friends, I know this isn’t uncommon. But I have to say, I do find this a little strange. You would assume that if you’ve been able to breastfeed once, you can do it a second time. Possibly more easily, as you have more experience the second time around. How wrong was I! My eldest child was born in 2017, and he was a term NICU baby. He was born with two lesions on his left lung and had difficulties breathing from birth. He was taken to the NICU within an hour of being born, and it was a whole 24 hours until I got to hold him again. My memory of that time…
